The total cost of treatment can only be determined once a clinical evaluation has been performed on each individual patient. As each patient’s condition is unique, the course of treatment and associated costs cannot be standardized.
It is important to note that varicose veins and venous insufficiency are medical disorders and not cosmetic problems. Medical schemes will therefore pay for surgery and procedures related to their treatment.
Medical aids pay for the traditional stripping of varicose veins but newer treatments like Radio-frequency ablation and endovenous laser therapy are not yet covered in full although most major medical schemes do. These include Discovery, Momentum, SpectraMed and GEMS.
